“Can you do____________?”

It’s hard for me to say no. So even though I had three other orders that weekend, I had to say yes when challenged.
What was the challenge?

I didn’t know how I would do it, but I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to put one of my favorite images on a cookie.

This turned out to be one of the most rewarding projects. I love Rosie the Riveter and I love being challenged!

Custom Bicycle Bridal Shower Order

What happens when you place a custom order with Miss Crumb?

The hostess provided this image of the garland that would be used as a decoration at the bridal shower. We were given the ok to use a variety of “bright” colors, not necessarily sticking to the garland’s color scheme.
Since we didn’t have a bicycle cookie cutter, we used a mix of small shapes to make a basic bike cookie. It took some imagination!
This is the fun part. The cookie begins to take shape.
A fleet of brightly colored bicycles is ready for a bridal shower celebration!

“How do you do that?”

When people see Miss Crumb cookies for the first time, I’m often asked

“How do you do that?”

It’s a fair question. And the answer can be as simple or complicated as time allows. The simple answer is patience. Custom decorated cookies take time. There are multiple steps involved after the cookies have been rolled and baked. Icing is layered on the cookies in a particular order. These cheery cherry cookies could be completed in one sitting because of the way the design and colors are laid out.

For some designs, it’s necessary for the icing to dry completely (10-20 hours) before the next icing color is applied in order to avoid color ‘bleeding.’ So for some designs, we are talking about a multiple day project. I think most designs are just worth it. The results can be impressive.

These Texas themed cookies took three sessions of decorating. Some cookies look better with a black outline, so that was the first step. The next step was basically just filling in the dried black lines of icing. After the filled in icing was completely dry, stars were added to the blue section of the ‘flags.’

They may have taken more time than a lot of designs, but it shows in the intricacy and overall design of the cookies. Someone in Texas will be very happy to receive this shipment this week!

The state flower of Texas is the Bluebonnet. It holds a special place in the hearts of all Texans. It also fits nicely onto a bunch of grapes cookie shape!
